Lying Raise 'n Curl

This is one of the best hamstring exercises for beginners... If you are intermediate or advanced, try these using an ankle weight... They work wonders!

  1. Lie on your tummy with one leg slightly raised off the ground, as shown in picture 1.
  2. Contract the hamstring muscle of your raised leg and bring your foot as close to your butt as possible.
  3. Make sure your keep your thigh off the ground!
  4. Now, lower back down to the start position...
  5. Repeat until it starts to burn... badly ;)
  6. Swap legs then repeat again!



Simple Standing Curls

This is a great hamstring exercise... It looks easy, but you will be surprised at how well it works! If you want to make it a little more difficult, wear the heaviest shoes you can find! (Please feel free to send in pictures if you can manage in a pair of "Spice Girl" shoes!)

We've added in the biceps curls for a little extra spice... If you need help in balancing, leave the biceps curls and hold onto a chair or wall :)

  1. Stand up straight with your leg raised slightly behind you, as shown in picture 1.
  2. Raise your leg as close to your butt as possible.
  3. Hold it there for 1-2 seconds.
  4. Keep your body straight... Don't bend over at the waist.
  5. As you raise your legs, also contract your biceps and do a biceps curl.
  6. Now, lower it back down to the start position.



Good Morning Darling

Shaye likes to do a few sets of these each day just after she gets up. They may seem like a mild exercise, but they're actually incredibly effective. Use different weights depending on your strength... Remember to push yourself!

  1. Stand up straight, as shown in picture 1.
  2. Bend over from the waist, keeping your legs straight (but not locked)
  3. Lower your hands/weights to the ground.
  4. Make sure you keep your back straight...
  5. Raise back up again to the start position.
  6. Repeat again and again until you really feel it.
  7. Then, repeat some more ;)

Hamstring Mega Blaster

This is definitely one of the best hamstring exercises we have ever come across! It burns every single time! Tom is trying to smile in the photo... but really he wants to scream.. hehe! A few sets of these each day will give you fantastic results in not time at all!

  1. Place on leg on the swiss ball (or exercise ball - whatever you call it!) Elevate your body off the ground. Raise one leg off the swiss ball, as shown in picture 1.
  2. Roll the swiss ball towards your body as close as you possibly can.
  3. As you roll inwards, really focus on squeezing your hamstring muscle.
  4. Use your arms to help with balance.
  5. Slowly release the swiss ball back to the starting position.
  6. Repeat...
  7. Repeat...
  8. and Repeat!
  9. Keep going until you want to scream!



The Towel Hamstring Stretch

After you've finished a mega workout of these excellent hamstring exercises... Your muscles are gonna be pretty darn tired... So.. It's a good idea to give your hamstring muscles a nice long stretch. You won't be nearly as stiff tomorrow ;)

For this hamstring stretch... all you need is towel.

  1. Okay, lie on your back and raise one leg to the sky.
  2. Wrap your towel around your foot, as shown in the picture below.
  3. Hold either end of the towel and gently tug your leg closer and closer...
  4. And closer...
  5. Feel the stretch? Great!
  6. Now keep at it... Stretch each leg for 2 minutes.
