We're glad to see that you have decided to look into hip stretches. You won't regret it. Hip stretches are highly beneficial to you. They're muscles that you use every single day. You need to look after these muscles so that they don't seize up for good. What better way to do that than stretching your hips. We guarantee you will feel great after developing your flexibility in this region. You will be able to live your life with far less physical restrictions.

Stretch 'n Straddle

Now, you may be saying "Ouch - I'm getting outa here!" but wait... you don't need to start off as far down. Work your way there.

This is one of those stretches that you feel really embarrassed doing at the gym. That's why it's perfect for doing at home... what are you waiting for? Give it a try!

  1. Get onto those hand and knees.
  2. Slide your knees further apart.
  3. Go as far as you can supporting yourself with your hands.
  4. Hold it for 20 seconds or more.
  5. Then relax. Phew!
  6. Okay... now you can do it again!



Flat Outs

Don't get scared away by this one either. When you first start doing it, you may only be able to bend 10 degrees forward. That's okay. You will definitely improve. If you can't lean forwards at all, put some pillows under your bum and try to sit forward of your tailbone.

  1. Sit on the ground.
  2. Open your legs into a straddle position.
  3. Bend as far forward as you can.
  4. If you need to support yourself with your hands, that's fine.
  5. Hold it for 20 seconds or more.
  6. It's time to relax... Phew!
  7. Now, do it again!



Flexor Stretcher

This hip stretch is really effective. When Shaye was eight she started doing them at gym. They help in doing the splits, which she has been able to do ever since.

  1. Bend one leg in front of you.
  2. Semi straighten your other leg behind.
  3. Hang your arms by your side for support.
  4. Make sure that you keep your hips square.
  5. Push as low as you can and hold for 20+ seconds.
  6. Make sure you do this stretch on both sides.




If you are a beginner and can't go all the way down, support yourself with your arms. This is a great hip stretch and really helps the flexibility of the muscles around your hips.

  1. Put one leg out to the front, and the other out to the back.
  2. Straighten both legs as much as possible.
  3. Put your arms by your side for support.
  4. Lower your hips as far as you can.
  5. Make sure that you keep your hips square.
  6. Push as low as you can and hold for 30+ seconds.
