I've been journaling my food and exercise since January of this year and I think it has helped me a great deal.

Recording everything I eat has made me much more aware of what I am putting in my mouth. Sometimes the thought of having to write it down will keep me from eating it--I can't hide from it if it's right there in black and white!

Journaling has given me a personalized reference manual for myself. I can look back through the days and find good ideas for what to have for lunch, dinner, etc.. plus if I am looking to have a low calorie day without having to put any thought into my menus, I can refer back in my journal and my day is planned out for me.

Journaling also shows me my weaknesses--where I screwed up and if there is a pattern. All of this works together to help me stay on track.
