This is an excellent idea!

Hi there :)

This is such a good idea and I always try to teach my friends and family to do it.

Some people hate counting calories - but these days it can be quite important. You at least need to look at the calorie content of things if you are trying to lose weight. This is because many food companies package their foods so well and make them appear as healthy and slimming options... When in fact the truth can be so different.

A perfect example is a product called a bumper bar (here in New Zealand) the packaging makes it look like a healthy museli bar type product - "With the goodness of oats" Now it's not even a large bar - it's pretty small and it will knock you back 400 calories! I know people who snack on them 2-3 times daily - and they wonder why they are growing year by year!

Keeping a daily log makes sure that high calorie foods like this don't sneak into your diet.

Another tip for losing weight is to try and keep things as natural as possible. If you make something from scratch using whole foods... it's gotta be better for you!
